The 3 Dangerous Trends Managers Face That Keep Them Feeling Frustrated with Unproductive, Unmotivated And Unreliable Team Members. #2
#2 Playing the Blame Game
“It’s not my fault. It wasn’t my fault. It’s not my job. It was because”…. STOP. Play above the line. You heard of this one?
Where are you playing? Where is your team playing? Does it REALLY matter who’s at fault? Isn’t it more important to reflect and learn and get on with it than finding out who to point that finger at. Maybe that middle finger? Play above the line. Whinging is not going to get you anywhere, and if it does, I imagine it may not feel right somewhere in your gut or your heart and is that really the person you want to be?Take ownership of your thoughts, feelings and actions. What others do is none of your business and can not affect you unless you let it. Be accountable for your life and take responsibility for it. Let me ask you this: If you were being filmed all day every day – including your thoughts and feelings, would you be happy for it to be broadcast to the entire world?
If I could get my boss on board or the CEO or CFO or OOO or whatever…whoever… then maybe we could get a program through, or a new x y z, or train the team, or develop them more, or support them more or ????? Don’t get sucked into the blame game. It’s contagious, it’s infectious. It, along with obligation, is also a ‘dis-ease’. What can YOU do for YOU? Which will also improve the team and others around you, just because you have evolved and have a growth mindset.
You have become a super human by learning, putting a routine into practice and developing yourself both personally and professionally. Where are you with the 9 elements of a well-lived life? POSSMFIEE Physical, Occupational, Spiritual, Social, Mindset, Financial, Intellectual, Emotional, Environmental? How would you rate each of these areas? This is where I start everyone off whenever I do any coaching. 1:1, groups, both personal or business coaching or corporate wellness plans. Get a base line so you know where you are now and where you want to be, then, play above the line, get a great coach you connect with, who is open and who also plays above the line. STOP PLAYING SMALL> And by playing a bigger game I don’t mean a more complicated, ‘busy’ or stressful one. Its not about adding more stuff. It’s simplifying. So, play a bigger game- your game. You only have one life, play it well.
